Growth, structural, thermal and NLO studies of gamma glycine single crystal grown from ammonium nitrate

A single crystal of the organic nonlinear optical material g-glycine has been grown in the presence of ammonium nitrate by slow evaporation method. The crystal structure is confirmed by Powder X-ray diffraction method. The UV spectrum shows the existence of wide transparency window suitable for optoelectronic applications with band gap energy of about 5.90eV. Fourier transform infrared studies revealed the functional groups present in the grown crystal and UV–Vis spectra confirmed that the transmission properties of the crystal specimen. Thermal stability of the material also has been carried out by using TGA. Second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency has been estimated as 150mV and the output power by the crystal is more than that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal
