Abstract

Novel organic single crystals of 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) were grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Single crystal XRD confirms that the
crystal belongs to triclinic system with noncentrosymmetric space group P1. Functional groups presents in the synthesized compound were confirmed by FT-IR analysis. UVVis studies shows that crystal has a lower cutoff wave length at 307nm with an optical band gap of 3.24eV. Dielectric studies were carried out to study the charge transport mechanism in the crystal. In order to analyze thermal properties TG/DTA studies were taken for the grown crystals. Photoconductivity measurements were taken for the crystal. Powder SHG efficiency of the compound was found to be 12 times the value of KDP.
