The insurance industry in our country underwent a big change in 2000 when private participants were allowed into the industry along with a streamlined regulatory and supervisory regime. Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation have become a much talked of subject among economists, businessmen, Politicians and Professionals in modern days. Privatisation is expressed as the supporting pillar on which is the edifice of new economic policy of our Government has been erected and implemented since 1991.The fundamental reason for the reversal of policy from nationalisation to Privatisation is the growing disappointment with the functioning of the public sector undertaking and state owned enterprises.
